But it can sometimes be easier said than done.

Our North American teams took part in several innovative initiatives to reach out to new and diverse talent in 2021. These included:

  • an online recruitment event in Montreal – WomenHack – to connect with female engineers, designers and product managers
  • a virtual networking event – HackerX – to connect with LGBTQIA+ tech professionals of colour

“We invited over 100 people to learn more about us and how they can potentially contribute to crafting our digital transformation,” says Anju Bissessur, who sees such events as really useful. Under pressure in Ottawa – introducing the innovative Blue Brute® Hammer Tee

We’re always looking for new ways to make our products more efficient, easier to install and use, and more durable. It’s a key element of our Growth with Purpose agenda.

The Blue Brute® Hammer Tee, a tangential Tee for hydrant leads that come off water mains, is a great example of this effort. Meeting the highest certifications for moulded pressure fittings and underground fire service standards, it is light, easy to fit and resistant to corrosion in aggressive soils.

It has proved an important innovation in Ottawa, where the city authorities, looking urgently for a moulded alternative to old inefficient metal fittings, even changed their specification and allowed temporary approval so we could use a temporary moulded product while we refined our new PVC design. As a result, our solution paid back its investment before launch.

Reaching out to diverse talent

The benefits of building a diverse and inclusive workplace to draw on the skills and ideas of people from a wide range of backgrounds and who can bring their full selves to work, are crystal clear to us.

But it can sometimes be easier said than done.
“I have no doubt the talent we attract through them will be of value to the company and the people on our teams.”
