Our teams in Latin America are driving forward several important Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives, most notably on gender equality, with a focus on workshops, mentoring and partnerships with organisations with a mission to empower women.

We held several DE&I workshops, both virtual and face to face, during the year mostly looking at the role of leaders in creating beneficial change.

The workshops explored important questions such as how to be an inclusive leader, how to be an ally, and how women can support one another in the workplace. Attendance to these workshops was cumulatively around 900 participants.

For a second year we also ran a cross-region mentoring programme for women, where mentees are paired with a colleague to receive career development advice and support. So far, 24 women have taken part in the scheme.

Outside partners are also helping us take our diversity agenda forward.

In Costa Rica, for example, we are the first construction company to join the Gender Parity Initiative, making a commitment to reduce the gender gap in terms of opportunity, career development and pay. The partnership gave us the chance to take part in gender training with a focus on developing our women leaders.

Meanwhile in Peru, we are part of the Women in Construction project and we’re proud to be part of the Inspiring Girls initiative in Colombia.

The latter project is all about encouraging girls in the later stages of their education to continue their studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. For us it makes total sense to support the project, as it will help us create a new generation of talented women who can one day work in industries like ours.
