Durapipe UK’s PLX+ has won a respected industry award, the top prize in the ‘Innovation’ category at the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration (APEA) Awards. Widely acknowledged as the leading event for the UK petroleum sector, the APEA awards recognise achievements across the fuel industry in a range of different categories from forecourt installations to improvements in environmental protection.

The PLX+ range was launched to meet the requirements of certain major oil companies that require ‘conductive’ pipe systems to be used for the safe transfer of fuels. Within fast flowing fuel applications that are transporting large volumes of fuel, there is an increased opportunity for static electricity to build up within the fuel, which could potentially, in certain cases, lead to a risk of ignition. To eliminate this risk, ‘conductive’ fuel systems allow built-up static electricity to pass through the system.

With PLX+, Durapipe UK is currently the only manufacturer to offer the flexibility of both a conductive and non-conductive fuel transfer pipework system to meet the requirements of any forecourt.

PLX+ has been specifically designed with a co-extruded dissipative bore layer to allow built-up static electricity to pass through the inner layer of the pipe and fittings. Offering an enhanced safety feature, a unique integral conductive connector also ensures that there are no loose items that could be missed out of the installation process, providing the reassurance of a continuous dissipative system. Finally, PLX+ comprises a co-extruded protective barrier layer, which can increase permeation resistance against many types of fuel blends ensuring there is no permeation of fuel through the pipe wall into the environment.

Durapipe UK is currently the only manufacturer to offer the flexibility of both a conductive and non-conductive fuel transfer pipework system to meet the requirements of any forecourt. Judges were impressed by the positive impact PLX+ has had on the industry bringing benefits throughout the supply chain from distributors and installers through to contractors and end clients.

Rich Pedley, Fuel Systems Product Manager at Durapipe UK, said: “We are delighted at picking up the APEA Innovation Award for PLX+. There were some great products shortlisted, so it is a fantastic achievement for PLX+ to win and it’s a testament to the hard work from so many different teams at Durapipe and across Aliaxis.”
